_Napoli Pizza is actually a Japanese pizza chain. This is their only location in Taiwan and it's privately owned and run. However, it's the closest pizza I've had in Taipei that resembles an American-style pizza. It isn't anything like Chicago deep-dish pizza, it's typical American-style pizza. Their logo is an Italian-American Chicago gangster eating pizza. As we all know, Chicago was once steeped in mafia influence. They choose a city in America for their name because they make an American-style pizza (and many Asian-style pizza choices with toppings Westerners don't add to pizza), they just happened to pick Chicago and their choice had nothing to do with deep-dish pizza, which you can plainly see from the pictures I've included in this review.
Taiwanese don't like much pizza sauce for some reason, or at least the Taiwanese restaurants don't think they do. This ends up taking away from the flavor in a big way, leaving a lot of Taipei Taiwanese-made pizza on the bland side. The manager at Napoli Pizza knows this fact and usually asks Caucasians if they want extra sauce, which is free--definitely get extra sauce! They forgot to give me extra sauce once, which would be the normal amount of sauce in America, and there was a very noticeable loss in flavor. Trust me, you must get extra sauce; their pizza is only OK without extra sauce. I also want to add that all of my Taiwanese friends like pizza better with the normal American amount of sauce (more than the regular Taiwanese amount), so even if you're Taiwanese, I think you'll like Napoli Pizza better with extra sauce. I think it's a misnomer that Taiwanese don't like the same amount of sauce that Caucasians do.
Extra cheese costs an additional NT$85 for their large-sized pizzas. Last time I ordered extra cheese I noticed that not that much more cheese was added, so I don't think it's worth the price, I won't ask for it in the future. Their large pizza (14 inches) comes in eight huge slices, but you can ask for twelve slices instead, which I think is better since it's easier to handle and eat.
Since it's an Asian company, they have all kinds of weird toppings for pizza like crab, green peas, corn, squid, tuna, shrimp, and curry sauce on one of the pizza choices. No. 9 on the menu, Special Curry, has a spicy curry sauce that I first thought was weird on pizza, but by the time I was on my second slice it had really grown on me. I would get it again for sure. So don't knock it till you've tried it; you may be surprised. Speaking of weird Asian flavors, I must warn you about No. 3 on the menu: Their "Special Cream Sauce" isn't like Western cream sauce, which is rich and creamy, the manager said it's a sweet-tasting cream sauce. He said that it's popular amongst Taiwanese but recommends that Caucasians don't order it. I haven't tried it, so I can't comment about it--I'm too scared to try it.
If you order carryout, you can get their buy-1-get-1-free deal. Keep in mind that extra cheese (+NT$85) and thick crust (+NT$30) isn't free on the second pizza, only the menu price of the second pizza is free. This deal makes it one of the cheapest pizza places in Taipei, if you're gong by price to amount. Don't worry if you end up having a lot of leftovers, which I always do, because the natural ingredients used keeps the flavors intact for days, unlike fast-food-chain pizza places that taste different the next day, or even after a few hours. Napoli Pizza is definitely one of my favorite Taipei pizza places for American-style pizza.
Vegetarian Pizza choices: Number 6, 14, and 19 on the menu.

They don't have a website for Taiwan, but if you're ever in Japan, here is their Japanese website (it has a different selection than Taiwan's, so don't use it as a reference in Taipei): www.chicago-pizza.com
