Lavazza is an Italian internationally known coffee bean and coffee maker company that was founded by Luigi Lavazza in Turin, Italy, in 1895. It's humble beginnings started out in a small grocery store in Via San Tommaso, Italy. Currently, the Lavazza company is owned by the third and fourth generation of the Lavazza family.
There is a good chance that the coffee is good in a cafe if you see that they use Lavazza coffee beans. However, this is not always the case, since it's completely up to the cafe's bean handling and each individual barista's expertise. I'm happy to say that I have received a quality cup of coffee every time that I have visited this location. The Lavazza Espresso Point near the Zhongxiao Dunhua MRT Station offers a nice Italian espresso (caffè), but also a pretty nice cake selection. They provide two free Wi-Fi connections to ensure Internet speed doesn't get dragged down. The best thing about Lavazza Espresso Point is their nice atmosphere for chatting with friends or hanging out solo as a free Wi-Fi leecher.
The cake selection Lavazza Espresso Point offers is better than most places in Taipei, but definitely not as good as some of the best cake shops in Taipei. Their cake falls more in the realm of Asian-style, meaning it's less rich and there are many spongecake variations. They have some of the best quiche that I've had in Taipei [read update below regarding quiche]. The quiche is kept in a refrigerated display case, but they heat it up for you and add a small side salad that comes with a nice dressing.
*UPDATE: They stopped serving quiche for a while, and started again with a new source. They're smaller, not as good as they used to be, and overpriced -- nothing good about their quiche anymore (view a photo of the new quiche at the end of the photo section below). Also, I found their cake to be just as good as before, but the price was raised NT$20 to NT$145 per slice, with less syrup accompanying it on the side. The prices of their drinks raised as well, which is not very cool since they were already pretty pricey to begin with. With these cut-backs and raised prices, I decided to drop their rating to 4 stars instead of 5.
