JB's Diner serves American-style food. One of my friends said that he really enjoyed their pastrami Reuben sandwich, so I thought I would give it a try on a Saturday night venture. After visiting a nice park where I relaxed and read a book, I took the MRT to Shipai and decided to walk to the restaurant instead of taking a bus, since the weather was warm enough. It took about 30 minutes to get there, so by the time I got there, I was quite hungry.
My experience at JB's Diner was horrible! I wish I had never gone and will never go back. I ordered the turkey deluxe because on the menu it listed avocado as the 2nd ingredient in Chinese & English. It came to me at the same price on the menu, but with no avocado. Without taking a bite, I told them that it didn't have avocado, and they said that they ran out of avocados. I told them they should have told me that before I ordered it because that was the main reason I wanted it. It pissed me off that they tried to trick me and thought I would not notice, but I remained calm and polite, refused it, and they let me order something else. I was already hungry to begin with and now I had to wait even longer for my second meal. But like I said, I remained calm and didn't get mad, and filled my time on my smartphone playing Zombieville, a game I had downloaded recently. It looked like it would have been a pretty good sandwich if it had avocado, except for the white bread, little amount of bacon, and the inflated price (NT$352 after the service charge). After seeing it, with all things considered, I wouldn't order it again even if it was done correctly.
The pastrami Reuben was my second meal (rather first meal since I never got to eat the turkey deluxe). At this point, I was starving and thought anything would taste good, but I was rudely surprised again. It would have tasted good if they didn't completely soak the rye bread in the sauerkraut water (or whatever liquid it was). I'm not embellishing a bit, the bottom two pieces of rye bread were exactly like eating a water-soaked sponge. There wasn't even any flavor in the sauerkraut or the mystery liquid in the bread, which made matters even worse. I gave them a second chance for a good review, and they completely messed it up again. I should have just refused the sandwich and walked out, but I'm too nice and was too hungry for that, so I ate it and left. My stomach made gurgling sounds for about an hour after eating that rubbish that JB's Diner served me.
My review score for JB's Diner is solely based on what they served me. I stuck to the facts, and didn't put my resentment into the rating. If I had, I would have given them only one star. If I was a female, I'd call this place BJ's Diner and avoid it at all costs.
