Haritts started out as a mobile cafe in Japan in September of 2004. In 2006 they opened there now-current shop in Shibuya, Tokyo. In 2014 they opened up there second location in Taipei. At the time of this review they only have those two locations. Taipei is fortunate that Haritts opened up there 2nd shop here.
It's a nice, cozy, and quaint cafe where one can partake of coffee and donuts. The donuts are of course Japanese-style, so don't be expecting Western doughnuts or you'll be hugely disappointed. I prefer sweeter desserts being that I'm an American who's half Italian -- both of these nationalities are prone to possessing a sweet tooth (but who cares about me, let's stick to talking about Haritts). However, I came to Haritts prepared and knew what I was in for regarding the donuts, so I ended up enjoying them for what they were. My first donut choice was their strawberry donut because it has strawberry inside and glaze on top and looked the sweetest of all their donuts, but they were sold out of that choice. So I got the cream cheese filled donut, black sesame honey filled donut, and the cinnamon donut. The cinnamon donut had nothing inside, nor glaze, so it was more like a nice bread item instead of a donut. The black sesame donut was small but contained a nice, slightly sweet sesame paste with some honey and was gone in a flash because it was quite small. The cream cheese donut was a donut with a hole in the middle and the cream cheese was inside the tube of the donut, but it was only in a little less than half of the tube of the donut. I think it would've been great if the cream cheese was throughout the whole thing, but then again, I have a different preference of taste when it comes to dessert items.
The coffee was surprisingly very good. Typically Japanese prefer weaker coffee where not much coffee can be detected, but this was not the case at all at Haritts; both the latte and cappuccino I tried were very nicely done: strong enough flavor to taste coffee, served at the perfect temperature, nicely textured, and great foam art work.
It's a nice cafe to read a book at or chat with a friend. They have inside seating and one outside table. I brought my camera and took pictures with it instead of my smartphone for this review, so the pictures aren't horrible this time -- sorry, I know you're used to my horrible food and decor photos. I actually love taking pictures, but I don't like taking pictures of food and restaurant's decor. But you're a food reviewer, you say. Well, I like to inform people about good places to eat and drink, and some sort of photos are necessary or there would be no substance or point to the review. So yes, I'm a food reviewer who hates taking pictures of food and restaurants -- haha. It's not what I'm photographically interested in, and that has always been the case. Sorry, I try not to talk too much about myself and stick to restaurant/cafe info, but sometimes I can't help but blather about myself. "I don't give a fuck about you, Jaysun, just tell me about the restaurant or cafe." Yes, I agree. I'll try to do better next time.
