Eggs 'n Things was established in 1974 in Waikiki by founders, Jerry and Jan Fukunaga. Since then they've opened more locations in Hawaii and other countries. Their all-day breakfast meals are the main reason why people visit Eggs 'n Things.
I've been to Hawaii, but I've never been to Eggs 'n Things. The first time I heard about it and tried it was here in Taipei. The first thing that caught my attention was that the prices were rather high for what the meals were, especially the Fruit French Toast: one piece of French toast with a few small pieces of fruit on the side for NT$350 -- yikes! Later on I did some research to find out what the prices were at locations in Hawaii, and to my surprise I found out that they're the same. I thought for sure that the high prices were only a Taipei-location thing, but I was wrong.
The following information I omitted after someone who lived in Hawaii for five years said it was wrong, but then a Hawaiian who was born and raised in Hawaii privately e-mailed me and told me that I was correct, so I'm adding it back to this review: Eggs 'n Things doesn't serve authentic Hawaiian meals, so don't be thinking that you'll have a traditional Hawaiian experience when you dine there. Also, I didn't get this confirmed, but, it appears that a large portion of the clientele at Eggs 'n Things in Hawaii -- at least the original store -- is largely comprised of tourists who are less likely to be frugal and are more apt to paying higher prices since they're on vacation.
Normally I don't factor restaurants' prices into my ratings, I just typically don't visit/revisit or review restaurants that are overpriced. However, this time for whatever reason, I revisited Eggs 'n Things and felt I had enough material to review it. I was going to visit it for a third time before reviewing it, but they were doing that thing where they had people waiting in line and I could clearly see that there were many empty tables inside, so I walked away miffed and decided to not return; I really hate it when restaurants in Taipei do this: treat their customers like cattle in order to create fake waiting lines to fool the passerby into thinking the restaurant is very popular so you should eat there too (unfortunately, this method works really well on the locals, I've noticed).
Now don't get me wrong, there are some nice dishes at Eggs 'n Things that you'll enjoy if you ignore how much money you're spending. They have some of the best eggs Benedicts in Taipei, they have syrup on every table so you can thoroughly enjoy your pancakes or waffles without having to beg for it from waiters, and they have some other tasty breakfast items. If I ignored their prices, I would give them a 4-star-recommend review. However, factoring in the prices, I wouldn't recommend (which would be a 2-star review) them to friends if they asked for my opinion. Therefore, I decided to put my rating in the middle with three stars and say it is okay.
Vegetarian options: They have many brunch items that aren't marked on their menu but are clearly visible to be vegetarian, so check out their menu below in the photo section to check those items out.
