"ChiaTe was established in 1975. It has been well known for its pineapple pastry/cake, a delicacy popular among tourists as well as locals. Chia Te's pineapple pastry is widely popular because it is produced with authentic ingredients and is sold at reasonable prices. The special, unique flavor and high quality have won the hearts of consumers, who love to give it as a gift to friends and business partners at home and abroad. Chia Te offers a variety of pastry and delicacies, including pineapple cake, cranberry pineapple cake, egg yolk pineapple cake, wife cake, milk cake, suncake and nougat, many of which have won government and industry awards."
-ChiaTe's pamphlet
ChiaTe is mostly known for having one of the best pineapple cakes -- also known as pineapple pastry -- in Taipei. They're one of my top two places for pineapple cake; the other place would be Sunny Hills (微熱山丘). ChiaTe has many other delicious pastry items besides their line of fruit pastries. Of these, my favorite two items -- which I believe are must tries -- are their Date & Egg Yolk Mooncake and their Mung Bean with Onion and Egg Yolk Mooncake. I almost tried every item at ChiaTe, and the only item that I didn't like was their wedding cake. I recommend you go elsewhere for that product. The critiques of two of their wedding cakes can be found, as always, in the captions within the photos below.
I recommend that you visit ChiaTe during the weekdays, especially when people are working if you can swing that time-slot, because they can get annoyingly busy during the weekend. Even when I visited ChiaTe twice on weekdays, I still found my experience to be very annoying. It seemed like people were trying to get in my way, bump into me, and push me. Some people need to learn that other people in the world exist and that there is a polite/observant way of moving around the store, holding your tray, etc. Of course, it isn't ChiaTe's fault.
