First off, AMP Cafe Independent Roaster is a coffee shop, not a cafe, as they don't provide anything to eat, except for some occasional third-party pastry items that pop-up at the counter every now and then (from my experience). It's a small coffee shop with four small tables with two chairs per table. It's one of the very few Italian-style coffee shops in Taipei. In fact, I've never been to any other coffee shop where the whole espresso based coffee menu was entirely Italian. It's the most authentic Italian-style coffee shop that I've visited in Taipei. Italian-style means smaller proportioned drinks, and most importantly, a lot less milk added to the espresso shot in each particular drink. If you like your cappuccino or latte deluded with a lot of milk like Western-style coffee shops outside of Italy (or outside of parts of Europe), you may be disappointed with the proportion. If you're used to Italian-style coffee, you'll absolutely love it.
Whether you prefer Italian- or other Western-style coffee, AMP has a drink option that will please almost everyone: Cold Brew Coffee. Even though I'm not a black coffee connoisseur, I absolutely loved their cold brew coffee! Their cold brew coffee is brewed for 48 hours, as the back of their bottle states, which is longer than most cold brews that can be as low as 12 hours. One could argue that more of the coffee bean extract is absorbed into the filtered water it's brewing in for higher caffeine content. Brewing coffee without hot water decreases the acidity level of the coffee by about 70% so it's less harsh on your stomach and intestines and tastes a lot smoother. AMP's cold brew coffee comes in a nice glass container that resembles a whiskey bottle. You can enjoy it in a frosted cup at AMP or take it home and mix it with milk or go to AMP's website (stated on the back of the bottle) for more recipes. I've included YouTube informative and tutorial videos about cold brew coffee at the bottom of this review if you want to make it for yourself at home -- it's actually quite simple to make.
"AMP Cafe, your neighborhood third-wave coffee roaster. We want to do things differently! Our house blend is made from three South American fair trade organic beans. Our organic whole milk is from Four Ways Farm in Miaoli and our organic whole cane sugar from Brazil. We sell beans (whole and ground), single origin drip coffee and espresso based drinks."
